Visbit Launches the First All-In-One 360-Degree Virtual Reality Video Streaming Service in Open Beta

Following a successful closed beta period that began in December 2016, VR and 360-degree video streaming company Visbit is releasing their service into open beta, marking the industry’s first official availability of an end-to-end platform offering streaming of 4K and above resolution VR 360-degree videos over regular Wi-Fi and LTE for mobile VR devices.

The company’s all-in-one service, which includes a publisher portal, VR cloud and VR player SDK, leverages its patented Visbit View-Optimized Streaming (VVOS) technology so content creators and publishers can simplify the management and delivery of Ultra High Definition (UHD) content to viewers at reduced bandwidth.

“Offloading the handling of video streaming and downloading, and the ability to stream high quality content on cellular connections is very helpful,” said Justin Lutz, lead innovation technologist at Primacy, a full service digital agency. “Visbit’s SDK is straightforward and simple to use, making it that much easier for us to deliver a quality video experience.”

VR puzzle game Solaright is the first HTC Vive title from a development team based out of India.

Solaright is the first HTC Vive title from a development team based out of India.  Solaright  is a zen-like VR puzzle game where the player has to illuminate a tree from a solar power source by solving a series of jigsaw puzzles from simple 3x3 virtual cubes to 4x4 and 5x5 complex cubes as you move ahead in the game.  The VR controller lets you rotate the cube, and understand the puzzle flowing through multiple faces

Dick Wilde from the makers of Kittypocalypse will be a launch title for the PSVR Aim Controller in May 2017, it is available now for Vive and Oculus Touch.

London-based publisher, PlayStack announced the global release of their first VR game,  Dick Wilde. Take to the swamps of Mississippi as Dick Wilde, the ultimate outdoorsman and “Exterminator Extraordinaire”, armed to the teeth with an arsenal of saw-blade rifles, nail guns and an electrified bow and arrow. Your job is to exterminate the infestation of ‘gators, crocs, piranhas and out-of-control birds before they exterminate you.

The Invisible Hours is a complex, murder mystery set in VR, which allows players to freely explore an intricate web of interwoven stories within a sprawling old mansion, in order to untangle a dark truth. Samsung announced that the new Gear VR and controller will be available on April 21st

Samsung announced that the new Gear VR will be available on April 21st for $129 during its Galaxy S8 event today. It comes with the new Gear VR controller but current  owners of older Gear VR models can also nab it separately for $39. 

 Google Daydream hit the market with its own controller with a trackpad and a few buttons but Samsung has come out swinging. Samsung's new controller has a trigger and feels more akin to the Vive and Oculus Touch controllers than just an after though. This should allow for  better gaming experiences on Gear VR.

PSVR gets yet another quality VR title with the launch of FATED: The Silent Oath.

Independent Canadian developer Frima announced today that its Norse-themed storytelling experience and movie-length narrative adventure, FATED: The Silent Oath, is now available on PlayStation®VR (PS VR) across North America and Europe. FATED takes the player on one man’s harrowing quest to protect his family from the destruction of their world at the hands of the gods.

InvestVR acquires the VR news site VR Focus from VR publisher and developer nDreams. In other news, CatsAndVR.com acquires grain free cat food.

InvestVR, an investment network company  today announced that is has acquired VR media outlet VRFocus from nDreams. InvestVR are match makers with direct access to decision makers of private equity funds, hedge funds, high net worth individuals and mutual funds.

nDreams Ltd., the UK’s largest independent developer and publisher solely focused on virtual reality entertainment software, founded VRFocus in early 2014 as one of the first regularly-updated websites dedicated to promoting and discussing the VR industry. VRFocus has since grown into the go-to destination for the latest VR news, with hundreds of thousands of readers each month.

The daily operation of VRFocus will not change, with InvestVR following nDreams’ example as a silent entity with regards to content production and distribution.

VR Superdad uses his powers to make his daughter smile and his cat annoyed.

VR Superdad Toby Newman used his VR super powers to put a smile on his daughters face. His latest experiment using a Ricoh Theta and an HTC Vive gives his child an idea of what the world looks like from the point of view of the family cat. A harness, a 360° camera, and a VR headset lets my daughter take a ride around our house on our cat. The cat has a harness that holds a 360° camera. The camera is fed the feed from the saddle-camera to a VR headset. Toby's  daughter uses her Lion King plushy to get an immersive cat experience.

This VR Superdad has also used his powers to shrink his daughter down and put her into her dollhouse. Check out the video below as well as 360 photos of the dollhouse.

Toby is using his powers for good and I hope he and his family have a great life in Virtual Reality and Reality Reality. He is also an inspiration for me to use my Ricoh Theta more.

Disney fans can now experience a tale as old as time in a new medium with this Beauty and The Beast VR experience.

Disney fans can now experience a tale as old as time in a new medium. The Beauty and The Beast VR tie in Lumiere’s Dress Rehearsal is now available for Rift and Touch on the Disney Movies VR app as a an interactive VR experience. 

Lumiere’s Dress Rehearsal puts you into the dining room of Beast’s enchanted castle, as Lumiere voiced by Ewan McGregor prepares for a special feast in Belle’s honor.  

The interactive experience is currently available to Oculus Rift and the full interactive experience will be available for Gear VR next month. For now Gear VR users will have to settle for a 360 Video experience.

I first took notice of Bobby Throne Ministries when my former roommate at the House Of Dtoid SF and my favorite MTV reality show personality Jonathan Holmes did a post about it on Destructioid. William Brierly of SnowRunner Productions describes the gameplay mechanics as very similar to Rock Band VR and other stuff he has never seen before.

The game is inspired by Will's fascination with Televangalists and also his time as a proffesional magician.

It does look like the SnowRunner Productions team has invested a lot of the money they received from the success of Soda Drinker Pro into Bobby Throne. They had a huge gaming booth at PAX East where they gave out coins. As you may have heard precious metal prices have gone up since the election of President Bannondorf. As you know silver bullets have great power against dark forces. 

Though they are indie darlings the SnowRunner Productions team has taken a page out of the books of major brands like Wal-Mart and Circuit City and used their new found gaming wealth to hire social media influences and strategic brand managers to brand their manage.

The Future is Meow with the World’s First VR Tracked Cat!

The team behind the super rad BAFTA nominated VR game Unseen Diplomacy is truly pushing the future with the World’s First VR Tracked Cat!

 Katie Goode of Triangular Pixels, the team behind Unseen Diplomacy posted up images of this cat/vive tracker cyber animal hybrid. 

 
The team modded a Mynwood Cat Jacket for this cute critter. His jacket is an excellent fit, with nice wide bands forless pressure on his under legs. The elastic cords allow for easy slip it on and off and it stays in place for purrrrfect tracking.

The teams goal is to give players a warning of unpredictable pets/children when they enter the space, and the potential to of course – actually see their companion in games. I see a valuable future in this to help people who are disabled play with their pets in VR.

Capcom is making me feel like a kid again with the launch of The Disney Afternoon Collection ft my all time fav NES game Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers.

Funny story this one time at science camp I told the teacher I love video games. She asked me which one, I said Chip And Dale. She lost her mind, I would not realize that she thought I meant Chippendales till later on in life. At the time I thought she was just a Disney hating commie. Well any way. WOW! The beautifully restored classic games feature crisp 1080p HD support and include all-new modes that can be enjoyed by first-time players and long-time fans.  The   Disney Afternoon Collection will be available as a digital download across North America and Europe for $19.99 / £15.99/ €19.99 starting on April 18, 2017 on PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One and Windows PC.

All six games are new and improved HD versions of the originals and feature a number of filtering options that replicate a classic retro look and feel. This collection also offers new ways to play with Boss Rush and Time Attack modes for each game. In Boss Rush mode, players battle through challenging boss encounters consecutively, while Time Attack mode encourages time-based gameplay and provides online leaderboards that track the fastest times for each game. A new “Rewind” feature makes these challenging titles more accessible for newcomers, with the option to rewind time and enjoy a swift recovery from blunders.
